What this site covers

HomesteadMarket.eu documents the practical side of heirloom seed exchange in Poland: how swap groups are structured, what provenance information growers pass along with seeds, and the basics of seed saving at household scale. Content draws on publicly available sources, published research on plant genetic resources, and observations from Polish seed-exchange communities.

The focus is descriptive. The site does not sell seeds, coordinate exchanges, or represent any seed network or organisation.

Sources and accuracy

Articles cite publicly available references including resources from the FAO's Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR), and publicly accessible documentation from Polish horticultural and seed-saving communities. Numerical figures used without citation are approximations from publicly available sources; where exact data is not available, the site uses non-specific language.

Scope

Content is limited to the following topics:

  • Seed-swap group organisation and logistics in Poland
  • Provenance documentation practices for open-pollinated varieties
  • Seed saving methods applicable to heirloom vegetables
  • The role of open-pollinated varieties in small-scale growing

Topics outside this scope — including commercial seed supply, plant breeding legislation, or certified organic production — are not covered.

Content updates

Articles are reviewed and updated when new relevant sources become available. Each page carries an update date in the footer. The site was first published in May 2026.
